Lot of people wait for this, as it would be much more precise.

Just do Ctrl+C on your first image, switch to the next one, wait until
it's loaded, and Ctrl+V.

No, add to batch means you tag the image so that it will be processed
later. The workflow should be:
- adjust all images you want to be converted (don't forget to Ctrl+B or
  "Add to Batch Queue" before switching to the next image)
- When all images have been adjusted, go to batch tab, choose you're
  output format (jpeg, tiff, png,...), your destination directory, the
  name formatting pattern, and start the rendering.

You got it, the iconbox is the box with the icons (or thumbnails). :)
You may hide/show the iconbox with Ctrl+I, and the toolbox with Ctrl+T
