I observe the same. Clicking on an element withing the selection
(whether it is made by Ctrl+A or Shift+selection) does not replace the
selection. This is a deflection from conventional behavior in most of
the widgets I know.

I'm running F9 x86_64 and F8 i386 on x86_64 hardware, should this matter.
